Our Curriculum

The most important part of sending your child to daycare is finding out what they will be learning. Little Red School House has a wide-ranging curriculum, meant to inspire and inform your children. Read on to learn more about our intricate and interactive programs for infants, toddlers, wobblers, preschoolers, pre-k, and school age children.

INFANTS (6 weeks to 10 months)

Both care giving and play are important aspects of the curriculum. Each infant will receive physical contact and attention such as being held, rocked, talked to, sung to, and taken on walks both inside and outside the center.

Feeding, for example, not only meets your child’s needs, but it provides a variety of sensory experiences, pleasure and satisfaction along with an opportunity to learn social and self-help skills. By concentrating on the individual needs and routines of each infant, staff is able to encourage physical, social and emotional development. The infant and walker stage is extremely important and we encourage parent teacher communication as a vital part of an infant’s daily routine.

This room is 1:4 ratio.

WOBBLERS (10 months to 18 months)

We have developed a program designed to help stimulate these active learners. Children have opportunities to explore the world during playtime and fine motor development is fostered by a variety of hand-eye coordination activities. Wobblers are read to by staff during story time and begin to develop language and large motor skills through circle time by our teaching staff.

This room is 1:4 ratio.

TODDLERS (18 months to 3 years)

At this developmental stage, children are very curious and experimental. Teachers read frequently with the toddlers to help them develop love for literacy and language skills through our planned curriculum. Children learn to use their words while interacting with friends in the classroom and actively learning colors, shapes, artistic techniques, dramatic play, music
and movement.

This room is 1:6 ratio.

PRESCHOOL (3 years and 4 years)

Children have opportunities for more structured curriculum and are given a gentle introduction into the preschool environment. Shorter large and small group lessons begin to develop cognitive and literacy skills, while free-play time develops the social and emotional experiences and skills necessary for a smooth transition to pre-k and kindergarten.

This classroom is 1:10 ratio.

PRE-K (5 years and 6 years)

Have opportunities to engage in a curriculum to prepare them for entering Kindergarten. A balance of child-directed and teacher-led activities give children the physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and language developmental experiences needed to succeed in school.

This classroom is 1:12 ratio.

SCHOOL AGE (6 years to 12 years)

Have opportunities to do homework with help in a supervised environment during the school year. We transport students to Gretna, Thomas and Whitetail Elementary. In the summer and winter break, we want to inspire your child to explore, create, interact and enhance what they have already learned.

This classroom has a 1:15 ratio.
